An unbelieving widow in Canada read an account of one of Mr. Goforth’s revival meetings in China which “gripped her very soul.” She went to her knees, confessed her sins, and yielded to the Lord Jesus. Then she demonstrated her true conversion by seeking out all those from whom she had stolen, in order to confess and make restitution.
When a staff who was stealing from the hospital he worked heard the story of the Cross read, his heart is soon changed and now full of conviction, he reports himself and asks that his salary be docked in repayment.
During the Hequ revival of 1934, a long-standing believer who had gained money in a dishonest way fell under conviction and confessed his sin. He did not stop there but promised to make restitution and so great was his joy on the day he fulfilled his promise.
Story after story reveal the effect of the Spirit’s revival on the Ping Yang church. Not only did previously hidden sins get confessed openly but restitution; a true mark of genuine repentance, was seen taking place—ill-gotten wealth was willingly sold and the proceeds returned to the rightful owners.
