Demons Cast Out In Jesus' Name
A man who had unclean spirit is discerned, he is prayed for and delivered. Thereafter he is filled with the Holy Spirit.
On one such occasion we were in a congregation worshipping and enjoying the ministry of the Word, but not realizing that both of us at the same time were discerning something unpleasant about a person who was there, but who we scarcely knew at all. Upon reaching home after the service, I asked Edna if she had been blessed by the Word that was preached so faithfully. She said she had, but felt sure the Lord had given her discernment about a man sitting two rows in front of us and to the left. Without her giving me his name, I told her who it was and added that I had discerned that he had an unclean spirit.
We agreed that it was right to be transparent and go to the minister to share what we had discerned. We did this but he could not accept it. In fact, he was severe with us and said we were acting self-righteously. We left his house heavy-hearted.
A few days later I was leading a night of prayer in a rural home a few miles from town. There were ten of us on our knees, seeking God’s mercy upon Britain and asking Him to turn us as a nation from sin and uncleanness to repentance and righteousness. Suddenly, just past the midnight hour, we heard a knock and ringing of the front door bell. I rose and went to the door and was somewhat taken aback to see standing before me the man that we had spoken to the minister about. The pastor had told him where I was and urged him to go to the prayer meeting.
I was wondering, of course, if the minister had actually come to realize that this man had a problem. I invited him in and asked him to remove his shoes since we were seeking the Lord for His mercy on Britain, and to our prayer group this was holy ground. He took them off, came into the room, and sat down in a chair, refusing to kneel like the rest of us.
A silence fell as we waited upon God’s presence, then I began to worship the Lord and give Him thanks for sending His beloved Son into the world - Jesus, Lord of all.
Immediately our visitor shouted out, “He is not Lord!”
That was enough. I was up on my feet, rebuking the unclean spirit, and the man began to spit, curse, and cry, “We will kill you!”
I quoted the verse, “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The words sent him roaring and running out of the house in his bare feet, into a wood nearby. We found a torch and went searching for him, to no avail, though we could still hear him screaming. I decided I should ring the minister, even though it was past midnight. He listened and said we must pray, admitting that he had sent the man to the prayer meeting in the hope that it would help him.
He finally turned up at dawn at the minister’s house, where he was given time to wash, drink fluids, and eat before going to a bed there to sleep. The pastor called a special private meeting of his elders and deacons, inviting the troubled man and myself.
I will not go into a lengthy description of what happened, but the unclean spirit within the man loudly manifested itself to a depth that shocked most who were there. I was not surprised because God had already revealed to me that he had the spirit of sodomy. However, the man wept and cried out to the Lord for mercy and he was delivered, completely set free, and filled with the Holy Spirit.
