God answers prayer

When a young boy who always argued against God answering prayers found himself in a situation requiring prayers, he quietly offered a prayer to God and had his request granted. Returning to his friend—with whom he argued—he declared, “Now I know that God hears prayer, for God heard me.”

When Merell Vories accepted an offer to go teach English in Japan, he believed that the offer was in answer to his prayer. But little did he know, that in Japan, where he was going, a young Japanese instructor had also been praying for someone like him to be sent to the school!

Marie Monson needed to go for a Bible course at a missionary outstation but couldn't get a cart to transport her there owing to the activities of brigands on the route. Marie, who was sure God wanted her there took the matter to Him in prayer and within an hour she had a cart come right to the house looking for a passenger.

One day, Marie Monson told the people she had a great night's rest when they probed, and she noticed the joy her answer brought to their faces. It was only later that she realized that her sound sleep that very night was God's answer to the prayers of these people who had received very distressing news about a band of brigands coming into their city the night in question.

Ann's request to God for transport money is miraculously granted to the astonishment of a lady who doubted a previous story by Ann of God's miraculous provision for her while she was sick.

Joanne had been praying, but was also asking for prayers for the Balangoa people among whom she worked; that God will help them to learn to pray and to depend on him. God answered her prayer, and He did it in the most interesting manner!

While on a journey with “friends,” Shao Wei Chao was deceived and robbed of all his belongings, leaving him stranded in a strange land. In his confusion, he was reminded by the Holy Spirit to pray. He prayed for help, and what happened was clearly God's mighty help.

Not only did God answer their prayers, but He did so by casting the idols out of a large temple building.

But instead of giving up on her dream, for six whole months, she petitioned God with this single prayer request: “Lord, if it is Thy will, open the way for me to attend this school.” It took months of prayers but she got the chance—which came in answer to her prayer—to live her dream.

Deacon Liu was attacked, and all the money with him was stolen. When he returned to the brethren with the report of the theft, Elder Tu led them to be calm and asked them to pray rather than panic. On the third day, the thief returned the money with the words, “I could not keep it”. God had answered their prayer.

God answered the prayers of George Muller for his orphans. Large groups of them were converted several times, showing signs of true conversion such as concern for the soul of others and a hunger for prayer.

A measles outbreak at the Orphan Houses of George Muller strained the rooms available. The orphanage team prayed that many children will not be ill at one time and that none of them should die. God answered their prayers in full, although 262 children fell ill, none of them died.

George Muller and a woman pray for the salvation of her husband, who was described as "one of the very greatest of sinners." Eventually, he gave his life to Christ.

Not long after James McQuilkin's conversion, he saw and read George Müller's Narrative and was inspired to trust God to answer his prayers like Mr. Muller. And with every answered prayer, McQuilkin was encouraged to trust God for more - and he did - and received even more wondrous answers to his prayers.

Arthur T. Pierson proved by his life, the faithfulness of God in answering the prayers of His children. In answer to prayers; he miraculously found his lost overcoat, had his early morning request on the financial needs of his family met at breakfast the same day, and got in just a day, almost all the funds needed to build a new chapel at Nowgong.

Mr. Harrison needed two missionary volunteers to complete the party of fifteen and about £500 to send them out but had not the means to do either. As the time to send them out drew nearer, the Lord led Mr. Harrison to the verse, ‘If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you’, and he claimed the promise, and in a series of divinely orchestrated events, the Lord provided for both needs.

Ziba's only hope to securing bail from prison was tied to a condition she'll rather not agree to. Feeling helpless, she ran to Maryam and Marziyeh who prayed with her. Days later, in an undoubtedly divine manner, God answered their prayers and Ziba secured bail.

Some of God's people in China gathered together in prayers and fasting, to seek God's face and His mercy before before making an appearance before the Religious Affairs Bureau—a body that was intent on persecuting believers. Yahweh heard the cries of His people and intervened!

Two beautiful stories from a small Chinese village illustrate, “How I know God answers prayer.” In one story, a man with a broken cart prays for, and receives, a specific kind of help, and in another story an intercessor’s request is abundantly granted.

When a scheduled Women’s Bible Training Class was cancelled, everyone was notified beforehand except Mrs. Lu who was overlooked. When she showed up for the cancelled meeting, Mrs. Goforth was sad that their carelessness had caused Mrs. Lu to make the long and strenuous journey. But little did she know that Mrs. Lu’s coming was God’s amazing solution to the very problem that caused the meeting to be postponed in the first place.

A surgery presented an opportunity to counter false stories that were been spread against the foreign missionaries in Honan. But if the surgery went wrong, it could be the excuse to inflame a mob such that the missionaries could lose their lives. Therefore, they gathered and prayed to God for a successful surgery. Not only did He grant their request, but the patient became a student of the Gospel.

Rosalind's prayer to be enabled to bless someone was wonderfully answered when she was led to a random stranger who was hungry for an explanation of the “victorious Christian life,” which is only possible with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The grateful stranger remarked, “surely God led you to me.”

The very damp and unfavourable conditions at the only room available to Rosalind and Mr. Goforth in Taonan mission home resulted in her contracting a number of illnesses from tonsillitis, lumbago and sciatica and eventually inflammatory rheumatism of the joints. Realizing that only by being in a dry and sunny place can her situation be salvaged, Rosalind took to prayer and just two days later, God answered her.

Rosalind Goforth's three children desperately needed clothes before embarking on the long journey home from Shanghai. Since she knew no one in the city who could help, Mrs. Goforth went to her knees in prayer. While she was still praying, the doorbell rang, and behind it were two women able and willing to make clothes. All provided for except the baby, the family embarked on their ocean journey. Mrs. Goforth asked the Lord to provide for the baby as He had done the others. By special delivery to the ship, from a previously unknown source, God provided exactly what was needed for the baby.

Thoughts about two missionary friends of Rosalind Goforth’s kept coming to her one morning. She felt led to send them gifts and went out of her way to do so. A few days later, she learned that her gift was a timely answer to their prayers.

Constancia's baby had trouble nursing but as soon as prayers were offered to God, the little one immediately began to nurse.

The Olsen's daughter, Lyne was to undergo a delicate surgery, and as she got wheeled into the operating room, her parents set out to a chapel to pray to God for a successful surgery. Their heartfelt prayers to God was answered when they returned to the hospital.

Exactly ten days after Jacob DeShazer obeyed the instruction of the Holy Spirit to pray for peace, the long war during which himself and other American military men had suffered as prisoners among the Japanese for forty months abruptly came to an end. God had heard the prayer He inspired.

By simply praying about his needs and safety, Rabi Maharaj enjoyed God's provision and divine protection - once his bus fair was miraculously provided for and, on another occasion, he was saved from what could have meant certain death for him.

A Muslim woman dared Esther that if Jesus healed her, she would accept Him. Esther prayed for her, and within a few days, she was healed. Her and her entire family became Christians.

Dr. Baedeker's guide became very anxious after they found themselves lost in the middle of nowhere, in the winter, with nightfall fast approaching. Dr. Baedeker’s immediate solution was to pray, while his guide would only fret. Finally, they knelt down together to pray, and their rescue came before they had even finished.

A young man told Dr. Baedeker of how God answered his urgent prayer. He had been riding in a remote region, with not a house or human being as far as he could see, when the horse stumbled. The young man, who was far from God in his heart, was thrown and broke his leg, and worse still, the horse ran away. Facing death by wolves or exposure, he cried out, “O God, if there be a God...have mercy...” and was promptly delivered in body and soul.

Grace Jacob's English classes with a group of atheist students was being spied on. But as Grace cried to God for help, He responded in the most remarkable way; blinding the spies but at the same time opening the eyes of the students to the message of salvation.

Before becoming a Christian, Abby was sleeping with her husband's boss, who threatened to fire her husband if she didn't. But now that she was a Christian she knew she could no longer do that. When the man called again, she knew that only God could deliver her, so together with her friend Grace, they prayed to God, and He stopped the phone calls.

A city missionary and a poor minister both had their faith strengthened when the former was used of God to deliver timely help to the latter in answer to a specific prayer.

Captain Boyle, who was once a privateer (a legally sanctioned pirate in time of war), recounts the deliverance of a British ship he was attacking with superior firepower. The deliverance of the weaker British ship seemed no less than supernatural to him, and this became instrumental in the captain's own salvation.

As a minister of the gospel neared the gates of Heaven, he had no fear, no anxiety about his fate in eternity, for Jesus had saved him and he knew so! His only dying wish was for twenty-five particular men to come to Jesus and though he died without seeing that happen, eventually all twenty-five came to the saving grace of God!

A young man's relationship with his father turned sour on account of his conversion and desire to answer God's call to ministry. But instead of despairing, this young man began to pray for his father's conversion, and he wrote to other believers asking them to pray also. As the Lord intervened, his father, who was much opposed to his son's plan, became converted and declared his joy and handing over his son to the glorious work of preaching the gospel.

When Rev. John Newton, a missionary to Lodian, North India, wrote the Fulton Street prayer-meeting seeking prayers for the salvation of his son, little did he know, that even before he called, God had heard and answered him!

When it was time to make the church's first monthly mortgage payment, it appeared they would right off the bat; default on payment. But Jim Cymbala, inspired by George Müller's testimony, cried to God for help - and just when Jim had given up, the Lord sent help miraculously.

When Cynthia lost the precious stone on her engagement ring, she began to worry before the Lord rebuked and reminded her of more important things. And so she committed the matter to him and went on with her business, a few days later while climbing a set of attic stairs, she heard the voice, "The stone is here." And truly, the stone was there!

A woman who has been taught the principle of prayer by George Muller, prays to God and he answers.

"Let us go down into the chart-room and pray", was George Müller's reply when their ship ran into a dense fog and Captain Dutton told him it will be impossible to make it to Quebec at the time he hoped to. After the prayer, Captain Dutton opened the door, and discovered that the fog had lifted; it was totally gone.

Mr. Wright's long-continued prayers for a partner to help with the work after George Müller's death were answered in the person of George Frederic Bergin. Mr. Wright felt led of God to ask Mr. Bergin, while at the same time, God was leading Mr. Bergin to offer himself to Mr. Wright.

The obvious need for a befitting biography on George Müller after his passing became a subject of prayer for his son-in-law and successor, James Wright. His prayer was answered when Arthur T. Pierson reached out to inform him that he had been led to write the memoir.

In an attempt to prove the validity of the many claims to answered prayer published by George Müller, an unbelieving businessman decided to test and see for himself if God really was with Mr. Müller. God answered the man's specific prayer, and even provided additional proofs.

In a remarkable answer to Mr. Müller's specific prayer, not only was the weather—which had been freezing cold and windy—suddenly warm and friendly for the children when emergency repairs had to be carried out on the boiler of one of the orphan houses, but the workers working to fix the problem volunteered to work overnight.

A ten-year-old boy was inspired by Mr. Müller's example to pray and trust that God would hear him just like He hears George Müller. He began to seek God in faith, and just like Mr. Müller, he was helped by God.

Heidi; Bob Fu's wife, had secured admission for graduate school at the People's University of Beijing and needed $3, 000 to fund her education. But despite praying everyday for weeks about it, and even sharing the financial need to other men, Bob still could not secure the needed funds. Bob was prepared to give up, but just a day before the deadline for payment, God showed up and answered his prayers.

Brother Andrew was passing across the Romanian border on a day when the guard on duty was inspecting the cars meticulously, taking up 45-60 minutes for each car. Before his turn, he prayed to God asking for a miracle, and what happened that day could only be described as a miracle. He was allowed to pass in less than a minute!

Ro knew to pray in every situation but also learned to trust a child's faith, when his daughter prayed and their vacation was salvaged.

Little Gracie was in the end stages of malaria, and the doctor predicted that her end would come with convulsions, as it had for two of the Goforths other children. Near the end, Rosalind sunk to her knees and prayed that little Gracie’s death, if it be God’s will that she should die, be peaceful and without struggle. Rosalind’s prayer was answered while she was still praying.

When Rosalind faced a financial need, she considered it "another opportunity to see what God can do" believing that He was a friend. Right before she finished the prayer, God answered her request, and the need was provided for!

Upon learning of the death of many dear friends at the hands of the Boxers, the Goforth family fled China with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Rosalind prayed for clothes for her children and God provided for their every need and more.

In a beautiful answer to prayer, the Goforths were miraculously provided with a fitting site upon which they built their home - and it was from that God-given home that the book from which this story was written.

Having lost all they had and barely escaped with their lives, the Goforths found refuge in a community of Muslims as they fled the 1900 Boxer Rebellion. God plucked them from the middle of a violent mob and their wounds were treated and they were fed and sheltered by these Muslims.

Troubled with the question of why they were saved while other believers gruesomely lost their lives in the 1900 Boxer uprising, Rosalind Goforth determines it was the power of united prayers on their behalf by the church at home in Canada.

Prior to his conversion, Mr. Brunton was a miserable fellow; he lacked the peace of God and was fearful. Mr. Taylor and other believers continued; over several weeks, to cry to God for his salvation. Eventually, God answers them; bringing great joy and peace not only to Mr. Brunton, but to them also.

When unforeseen circumstances prevented a notice appealing for funds from going public, the amount needed was still secured in answer to prayer alone, causing a grateful Hudson Taylor to declare: “Truly, there is a living God, and He is the Hearer and Answerer of prayer."

“I have felt the pull of your prayers, I hope this meets your need," was the remarkable note from Pennsylvania that came with a check for the exact amount of money a missionary in Africa had been praying for.

A believer's definite prayer for guidance on finding a job is answered almost immediately and remarkably so.

A very weak Charles Noble was being starved in prison and one night, when the weakness seemed unbearable, Charles cried to the Lord for one or more slice of bread. That same night, the Lord sent Charles help using the most unlikely vessel.

When a young student of Forestry was imprisoned for no just cause and brought to the same cell with John Noble, they prayed together each night for his release and one day he was released - without explanation - becoming one of fifteen prisoners out of 21, 000 to ever be released like that.

After Trumbull's assistant left him for a better offer elsewhere, knowing how difficult filling the vacancy will be, he took his need for another assistant to the Lord in prayer and the Lord heard him.

A believer's cry for help as her house was being broken into was answered instantly by the Lord. And as a result, not only she but others in the neighborhood were saved from the burglar.

Right after Medine Moussounger and the teenagers she was teaching finished praying about her dire need for clothes, the Lord answered them as Medine was soon gifted a nice fabric enough to make some clothes for herself and her son.

In answer to prayer, a hardened father's heart was softened; in place of a vehement opposition to his children getting baptised was a willingness to let them follow and obey their heavenly Father.

Isobel Kuhn prayed with faith to God for a house, God answered her prayer!

Miss Marjorie Harrison had been saving money to go to China for foreign missions but was disappointed when she failed to get medical clearance to go. She took to prayers to have God show her who to give the money and was directed to Miss Isobel Miller who was fit to travel but lacked the funds to do so and was praying too to Go for provision.

In a remarkable answer to Isobel Miller's prayer for winter coats, Dr. Page and his wife emptied their accounts to open an account for Isobel with $100.

Ned had not food to feed his family and having resisted the devil even in his desperation, he turned to God for help. And within an hour after his prayers, God answered him!

Smoking was one demon Edward Wright struggled to defeat, even after his conversion. One night as he sat in his garden to indulge in this habit of his, his apprehensive wife went to God in prayer on his behalf and that night her prayers were answered: Ned never smoked again!

A young girl ignores her reservations and commits by faith; to contributing monthly in support of God's work. She took on the task of praying to God over her commitment and one week later, a 'miraculous improbability' occured.

Two women, one suffering from suicidal mania, and the other from rheumatism, were both perfectly healed when the Lord Radstock offered prayers to God on their behalf.

And help came; for not only was fear banished, but she spoke spoke Finnish fluently and powerfully as an oracle of God, bringing hope to hopeless men!

At a crusade in Gombe, a Christian schoolteacher preached her heart out before praying for a blind woman who got home before realizing the remarkable miracle that had happened to her.

Fifteen-year-old Simon was throughout the duration of a peace camp, praying for his roommate who said he will believe in God, if only he got a sign. At the end of the camp, Simon was feeling deflated thinking his prayers were unanswered when Udi, his camp roommate walked up to him to say, "Simon, you were the sign from God!”

Cisco was in prison when Hector's mother visited him asking that he prays for her son Hector who was dying with AIDS at the hospital. And through a telephone from prison, Cisco prayed for Hector's healing, and that same night; an astonishing miracle happened.

Larry Poland was rebuked by the Lord for ignoring the Spirit's prompting to witness to Ramon—a man he met on a flight to Bogota. Larry pleaded to God for forgiveness and asked for a second chance; if possible. Through a divinely orchestrated event, he got that second chance and wasted no time in obeying the Lord!

A man who has cancer receives healing due to the prayers of his friends, despite his indifference.

Years of uncontrolled indulgence in drinking left Bob a broken man; his wife, having had enough, left with the kids. He was all alone and in the midst of that darkness, he cried out to the Lord for help and found grace to quit drinking.

A mother in Philadelphia was heartbroken over her two sons who were on the path to ruin, and she asked a group of Christians to join her to pray for them. The very next day, both sons had separate encounters with the Lord and found their way to Christ, returning home happy and sharing their newfound faith with their mother. They later testified in a young converts' meeting, sharing their story of transformation and the resulting joy in their home.

A little cripple on her deathbed was distressed because she could not actively labor for God among the lost. Her clergyman advised her to pray for them and write their names down, and she did so. Later, a revival sprang up in the village, and when the little cripple died, a roll of papers was found under her pillow bearing the names of fifty-six persons, every one of whom had been converted.

During his time in London, a wealthy doctor in his seventies asked D.L. Moody to come and see him privately about his soul. The doctor's wife had been praying for him for fifty years, to no avail. But eventually, with Moody's guidance, that prayer was answered; the doctor accepted Christ and made a public confession of his faith to his family, bringing great joy and relief to his daughter and loved ones.

A woman's unbelieving husband wouldn't allow religion to be talked about and rejected her prayers. But the woman continued to pray at 12 o'clock every day for a year, and even after her faith began to waver, she persisted for six more months until her husband was finally moved to pray and ask for forgiveness for his sins.

Louise's life was going very well; in fact, it was picture perfect, until life happened and her husband gave in fully to his proclivity for excessive drinking. Expectedly, her little world began to crumble, but as she began to pray for her husband, the miracle she sought was given to her. One day God took away the desire to drink from him and never again did he return to the habit.

Ed, his team and Paul; a new convert found themselves stuck when their vehicle got stuck in mud. After hours of fruitless attempts at getting the vehicle out, Paul, the new convert asked that they pray to God for help and when they did, a most amazing miracle happened.

Led by Dale Neff, a group of Christians were gathered during a convention to pray all-night long for the meeting where many will be challenged to offer themselves to God for foreign missions. Their prayers were answered as night after night, men answered this solemn call!

Believers prayed for £100 for a specific purpose, God precisely answers their prayers.

Jozeca and her husband Jakob had been praying for a child and were both offered superstitious solutions to their need. But for them, only God gives children and they chose to trust Him alone. And He did not fail them!

For fear of his Muslim father's reaction, Ben decided to keep the news of his conversion to Christianity secret. And his church organized a round-the-clock prayer chain for Ben's situation at home and in the most amazing manner, God heard their prayer and Ben's fear was dismissed - his father became a Christian too.

When drought struck Shao's village, his means of livelihood was threatened; added to this, a worm attacked the one peach tree he hoped would provide for them. Hsi arrived during this period and led them to prayer for sustenance. God answered!

During a hot and dry season in Oberlin, Ohio, a total absence of rain caused severe suffering among the people residing there. Meanwhile, Charles Finney, a Christian preacher, was taking a walk in Orbelin when he met someone who questioned the goodness of God denying them rain and instead wasting it over the lake that needed it not. This caused Finney to pray fervently, and soon after, a rushing sound of rain fell; bringing much-needed relief to a suffering people.

Luther valued Melancthon's learning and gentle demeanour in the fight for reformation, especially as it contrasted and balanced his own, sometimes brash nature, so, when summoned to his deathbed, Luther pleaded with God for his friend's recovery. Despite Melancthon's protests that he was ready to depart, Luther persisted in his prayer. In the end, Melancthon recovered, in direct answer to prayer.

A young lady lost her reason and was placed in an institution for the insane in Iowa, with no hope of recovery. A year later, a Baptist minister's wife felt drawn to pray for her and assured the young lady's father, who had long given up any hope of his daughter recovering, that his daughter would be fully restored. Soon after, news of a sudden change for the better arrived, and in just over two months, the young lady returned home well and resumed teaching. The head of the hospital, an unbeliever, described it as the most remarkable case of recovery he had seen during his eight years there.

Rev. Mr H-, a converted drunkard, faced a challenging moment one day on his way home when passing a rum shop. His old appetite craved satisfaction, and he cried mightily to God for deliverance from it. God heard and answered him, and he rose up a free man and has remained free ever since.

Rev. Allen Hazen recounts the conversion of a learned Brahman who, despite being employed as an assistant in translation and having a high respect for the Christian religion, clung to his native faith. However, when he suffered intensely from rheumatism and was about to commit suicide, he prayed to Jesus for relief and vowed to confess Christ and profess his faith by baptism. His prayer was answered, and he was baptized, providing a double answer to prayer - his and that of the missionaries who had been praying for his conversion for years.

In 1835, C.B. Crane entered Hamilton College with the goal of becoming a lawyer, but after a profound experience of Christ's love, he devoted himself to the ministry of the word. His father, who was a pastor in a nearby village, had been praying fervently for his son to become a Christian man and a minister. When C.B. Crane wrote his father expressing his desire to live a Christian life and become a minister, his father was not surprised because he had been confident that his specific prayer for Crane had been answered.

Mr. Robert Gribble was blessed to have the scripture “Before they call I will answer, and while they are yet speaking I will hear” come to pass in his life when the Lord met a need of his while he was yet out praying.

A believer refused to contribute any money to a fund that was to be used for an idolatrous work aimed at protecting the houses on his street from an imminent fire disaster. He chose instead, to pray to God for deliverance and so it was for him; for even as the fires raged; consuming his next neighbour's, his house was miraculously spared by the God to whom he prayed!

As the village of Nowar was being approached by an armed group of murderous savages, but as the people offered prayers to God in their panic-stricken state, He heard and sent help!

When the plot annihilate foreign Christians by the Cantonese in Ningpo in retaliation to the British bombardment of Canton was leaked to the Christians, the got together and began praying for God's protection. While they were yet praying, the Lord answered their prayers remarkably - and their lives were preserved.

The doctor had declared that death was certain given Mr. Meyrick's illness, but John Wesley joined with a few others and knelt before the Lord on his behalf. Rev. J.S. Bass recounts how his daughter had a severe case of "St. Vitus's dance," a condition that caused involuntary muscle movements and was considered incurable by medical professionals. Despite seeking the best medical care, her condition worsened, and death seemed inevitable. However, after a group of church sisters prayed for her, the daughter suddenly recovered, standing and walking without assistance and lived a healthy life until the age of 22, when she passed away.

The heating apparatus of the Bristol orphanage broke down at the beginning of winter and repairing it would take weeks. In desperation, George Muller prayed for two things: for God to change the north wind into a south wind, and for the workmen to have the desire to work. The next day, the south wind blew exactly as prayed and the workmen even offered to work all night, consequently, the repair was completed within 30 hours, and the children were kept warm without needing a fire.

Mr Moody and others who were on the disabled steamer spree, believe that the vessel was saved in answer to prayer.

In a very remarkable answer to prayer, a drunk mob, determined to permanently obstruct a camp meeting of believers was not only quietened but had many that were part of it, led to repentance.

Mrs. Miller had been invalid for many years, she was unable to move without crutches until when she came to the belief that Jesus would heal her. She prayed for healing and God answered. She never experienced any pain again.

Two stories that demonstrate the remarkable impact of prayer on preaching. Without prayer preaching can be meaningless.

In 1890, Rev A.B Simpson was burdened for those who had not heard of the true God. He prayed to the Lord, explicitly requesting one hundred missionaries for foreign work, money to support their transit, and money to sustain them in the field. The Lord answered all his requests. By 1892, the work had doubled.

When the house rent of a couple was due, they had no money and no way of getting money. All they could do was trust in the promises of God. Their trust and faith in God were rewarded; a man they met just once sent a check for half the amount, and the remainder came in through small donations. God is faithful to those who trust in Him.

When a poor widow could not attend church because she had no shoes, she prayed to the Lord, asking for shoes. The Lord answered through a schoolmaster who came to visit her son. She got shoes on that very day!

A Captain's widow refused to give up on her wayward son. She prayed for him daily, believing that the Lord would arrest him. She prayed one last time on her dying bed, hoping the son would return home and accept the Lord. To everyone's surprise, the son arrived and announced that he had accepted the Lord as his Saviour. She died a peaceful death knowing she would be meeting her Saviour.

With a short prayer, “Lord, have mercy upon me!”, William Tennent's mode changed for the better and his sermon led to the conversion of thirty people.

Robert Greene a former slave fell ill and was struggling to survive when a group of believers visited him and shared the gospel with him. He surrendered his life to Christ, prayed for healing, and got healed.

A poison ivy sadly poisoned Mrs. Cone. All medical treatments were used, but to no avail; her health kept deteriorating. Alas, she called for a faith cure. She was prayed for, and by the next day, she was completely healed.

Three stories demonstrate how God answers the prayer of those who called upon Him during their times of need. God answered in all three situations.

Brother L. G. Whitney had planted corn seeds with the expectation that he would harvest when due. However, frost came upon his corn. With faith, Brother L. G. Whitney knelt and prayed for his farm. While the frost affected other farms, nothing happened to his corn. It was a bountiful harvest for him that year, the highest he had ever gotten.

S.B. Shaw owed a man ninety dollars, but they could not repay it on the due date. Desperate, they told him their circumstances and begged for forgiveness, but God wanted them to repay their debt rather than just get away with it. They prayed for God to lead them out of this. Indeed, He did, in the most unexpected way, that showed it was His doing, not theirs.

When the French sent a powerful fleet to destroy New England, the citizens had no help except prayer. They fasted and prayed, believing that God would scatter their enemies. A mighty storm arose the powerful fleet; many French soldiers died, and the French abandoned the enterprise.

A little girl who heard a preacher preach that Jesus" can save to the uttermost" decided to take him up. She followed him to his house and invited him to save her drunk father, who was attempting to kill his wife. That day the little girl's faith was rewarded. The father accepted the Lord; he was "saved from the uttermost"!

A woman whose husband ran away from her came to C. H. Spurgeon believing prayer could bring him back. Both of them prayed together for the husband. Some months later, the husband returned home after reading a collection of C.H. Spurgeon's sermons and giving his life to Christ.

After an emotional struggle, Bishop Simpson told his mother he was answering God's call to ministry. Unknown to him, this had been his mother's prayer since the day he was born!

A widow's supply ran out. All she could do was "spread it before the Lord." The next day God impressed upon another Christian lady to visit her; that Christian lady was the Lord's answer to the widow's needs.

As the hailstorm approached, Beate Paulus lifted her hands to heaven and prayed to God, asking Him to stop the hailstorms. The hailstorm stopped just outside her village!

The postman brought news that all of Beate Paulus's three boys' school fees were due and must be paid immediately; if not, they would be dismissed. Knowing she had no one to help her, Beate knelt, interceding before God for a whole night. Just as she finished praying, a man came who gifted her all the money needed for the boys!

Immediately after their conversion, the Lord impressed upon the heart of Shaw to pray for their neighbor's family. They did, and within a short time, the whole family had accepted the Lord.

Rev. E. B. Slade's wife ran out of wood during a snowstorm; there was no way for her to get a new supply which meant she couldn't cook. She took it to the Lord in prayer. Soon enough, three of her neighbors came to see her saying they had been impressed to come to her aid. The whole family was moved to stay in the neighbor's home and well taken care of; God had answered her prayers.

A widow and her daughters were stranded without food in a snowstorm. The mother led the daughters in prayer, believing that the Lord would provide. As time passed, the daughters became anxious, but the mother’s faith in the Lord remained unmoved. Just before they reached their breaking point, they heard the knock of answered prayer on the door.

Two sisters were on their way home when one fell to the ground in pain. She was in so much pain she couldn't move. They couldn't get home, and they had no help. Then the younger remembered their mother telling them to pray whenever they were in trouble. On the streets, on their knees, they prayed to God to send help. God answered their prayer!

A minister had a strong impression of heading to an older adult's home and praying. After much hesitation, he prayed, specifically asking the Lord to protect the people from violence. Some months later, he found out that a thief had indeed attacked that home at that specific time, but God had paralyzed his hand, stopping him from harming anyone.

When a woman found out that her train could not reach her destination city to use the bus that would transport her to her final destination, she could only pray that the bus would wait for her. When she got there, the bus waited for her.

A little boy stood at the window of a store looking intensely when a lady asked what he was looking at; he responded, “I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,” God provided those shoes through her. When she was leaving, he asked her in a beautiful, humorous way, “Are you God’s wife?”

John Barry and his wife had just one day's supply of food left in a snowstorm, but John did not despair; he believed in God's promises. He and his wife joined together in prayer, asking for help. At the same time, a Deacon was awakened with a specific instruction "Send food to John." God heard John!

John Byers was called to pray for a girl who had burned herself with kerosene. In prayer, he asked God to take away her pain; her pain was gone. Using this, John preached the gospel to her, and the girl accepted. She died a peaceful death. John also prayed for the doctor who attended to her; despite the doctor's mockery, he accepted the Lord months later. John's prayers were all answered.

A convention of Christian working was held, but due to the composition of ministers from different denominations, there were great differences of opinion and disagreements. But some participants understood the power of prayer and prayed they did. That changed the tone of the whole convention; it ended in praise!

When a Russian woman who worked as a cleaner at the hotel where Corrie and Conny were lodging rejected the tract Corrie handed out to her on their way to get breakfast one morning, Corrie prayed to God asking that this woman still be reached with the gospel. When Conny and Corrie heard a knock on their door that same day, they had no idea that God was about to answer their prayer!

Surprise Sithole had been trying without much success to teach his wife Tryphina, the English language. But much to his surprise, he returned home after a few days away to find her speaking the language and when he asked how it happened, she simply replied, “I was just praying that God would help me, and then one day I was able to speak English.”

Unable to afford a computer set for their kids who were all in high school, Art and Ellen were in need of a miracle and took to praying to God for a computer for their children. The Lord revealed to their friends - the Nakatsukasa's, their need for a computer and used them to miraculously provide the needed funds.

Art Sanborn and his team determined to be on the offensive spiritually, they prayed every day for their neighborhood believe that God would turn "garbage around us into fertilizer; then He could breathe life into a beautiful garden of precious souls". Over the next few years the neighbourhood was transformed so much that bars closed down, squatters got jobs and the Muslim mosque was closed down.

John's perpetual drunkenness led to his separation from his wife and daughter. After seven years of addiction, John had become a Christian and wanted to reunite with his family, whose whereabouts were unknown. But after Art Sanborn prayed with John, the unlikely happened.

Barb's co-missionary was in desperate need of money and while trusting the Lord to provide it, she had cause to check a drawer for something and in the course of doing so uncovered a huge mess made by rats that she had to clean up. And even she did so grumbly, in that huge mess was God's answer to her desperate prayer!

The prayers of Mary and Barbara on the one hand, Don on the other, and also that of Mr. and Mrs. Four was answered by the Lord when he made it possible for all of them to meet each other divinely!

One of Kathleen Parson's prayer request as she travelled for the 1976 Lausanne Mission Conference was for God to give her friends so she wouldn't be lonely for the five days she will at the conference. And in answer to her prayer, God gave her friends that still remained close, a decade after Lausanne '76!
