Give and it shall be given unto you

It was after helping a brother in need and soon afterwards having his own need met by the Lord, that Watchman Nee famously remarked, "the way of God is not 'save and you shall grow rich.' It is 'give, and it shall be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over.'"

Mr. Swen was enjoying an increasingly bountiful harvest from his farm as he faithfully gave a tenth of each harvest like he promised. But soon, he gave in to covetousness and stopped giving like he had promised. The result was a woeful harvest.

Mr. Swen, a Chinese farmer, was convicted of his sins and he publicly confessed them, promising to renew his commitment as a servant of God. As he matched his words with actions he saw, like never before, God's powerful blessing on his business.

A poor woman in dire need of food approached Dr Culis, who despite his own needs, gave her enough money to buy food for a few days. Later that evening, he too was blessed to receive $40 from an unexpected source.

A woman with only one sovereign left in her bank for the poor felt the urge to give it away to a widow in need on New Year's day. Despite her hesitation, she remembered the passage, "The Lord is able to give thee much more than this," and decided to give the sovereign away. Later that evening, she received a letter from a stranger with five pounds and a box of soap to donate to the poor, proving the truth of the passage she remembered earlier.

When an OMF staff yielded to the call to put God to the test by giving to His work ourselves so that He can give more to us, she finds God faithful as soon after giving, she too was blessed to receive.
